Bengal took two wickets of Madhya Pradesh after scoring 438 runs

Young wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel struck a half-century as Bengal bowlers strengthened their position in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against defending champions Madhya Pradesh by taking the wickets of both the openers in the first innings at the end of the second day’s play on Thursday. Bengal started playing ahead of 307 runs on four wickets on the second day. The team was dismissed for 438 runs in the first innings by adding 131 runs in 54.3 overs. During this, 20-year-old Porel (51) and captain Manoj Tiwary (42) shared a 78-run partnership for the sixth wicket to put the team in a strong position.

By the end of the day’s play, Madhya Pradesh lost two wickets for 56 runs. The team is still behind by 382 runs. Captain Tiwary added 37 runs in yesterday’s score of five runs. He reached the team’s score of 400 by hitting five fours in his 129-ball innings. After his dismissal, the Bengal batsmen could not stay at the crease for long. The team lost the last four wickets for 37 runs. Kumar Kartikeya was the most successful bowler for Madhya Pradesh. He took three wickets for 95 runs. After wrapping up Bengal’s innings, the Madhya Pradesh team could not make a strong start.

The 27-run opening partnership of Yash Dubey (12) and wicketkeeper Himanshu Mantri (23) was broken by Akash Deep (1/10). After this, Ishan Porel (one wicket for four runs) showed the way to the pavilion to the minister. At stumps, Saransh Jain and Anubhav Agarwal are batting on 17 and four respectively. Anustup Majumdar (120) and Sudeep Gharami (112) got Bengal off to a good start on the first day of the match on Wednesday.
