Doctor Ji Box Office Day 1 Ayushmann Khurrana’s film heavy on films of stars like Ajay Devgan

Ayushmann Khurrana has high hopes from ‘Doctor Ji’ after giving three consecutive flops at the box office, ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui and Anek. Now it remains to be seen how this film performs at the box office. Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet Singh starrer ‘Doctor Ji’ has opened bigger than expected at the box office. According to reports, the film’s collection on the first day has been around Rs 3.25 to 3.75 crores, which is almost 50 per cent more than what the industry experts were making. It is being told that the experts had an idea that the opening of the film would be between Rs 2.25 to 2.75 crores only. But the film has surprised everyone with a bigger opening than expected.

Bigger opening than Ayushmann’s previous film

‘Doctor Ji’ has a better opening than Ayushmann Khurrana’s previous film ‘Anek’. Anubhav Sinha’s directorial debut ‘Anek’ was released on 27 May this year and on the first day the film collected just Rs 1.77 crore. Not only this, ‘Doctor Ji’ has also made a great opening compared to Ayushmann’s hit films ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’, ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’, and ‘Andhadhun’. These films collected 1.80 crores, 1.12 crores, 2.42 crores, 2.71 crores and 2.70 crores respectively on the first day.

Bigger opening than Ajay, Shahid’s films

If we talk about other films of this year, then Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Doctor Ji’ has overshadowed the films of stars like Ajay Devgan and Shahid Kapoor in terms of opening collection. Yes, the film has earned more than Shahid Kapoor starrer ‘Jersey’, Ajay Devgan starrer ‘Runway 34’, Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Jhund’, Ranveer Singh starrer ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ and Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Dhaakad’ on the first day. The opening collections of these films were Rs 2.93 crore, Rs 3 crore, 1.38 crore, Rs 3.25 crore and Rs 55 lakh respectively.

A ray of hope for low budget films

Assistant director-turned-director Anubhuti Sinha’s film ‘Doctor Ji’ has been released in theaters on Friday. Apart from Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet Singh, the film also stars Shefali Shah and Sheeba Chaddha in important roles. The film has got mixed response from critics. Neither the direction of the film is being praised much nor the acting of Ayushmann Khurrana nor its music is being described as anything special. Despite this, this social comedy drama has shown a ray of hope to the budget films with a great opening.
