Had to bear the brunt of poor bowling in last overs: Jadeja

Mumbai| Chennai Super Kings captain Ravindra Jadeja said his bowlers wereted 10-15 runs more in the last over after they suffered an 11-run defeat against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League match here on Monday. Batting first, Chennai were restricted to 176 for six after Punjab made 187 for four.

At the award ceremony after the match, Jadeja said, “We started very well. We bowled in good areas with the new ball but I felt we gave 10-15 runs more in the last 2-3 overs.

We could not execute our plan very well in the last overs. That he was batting brilliantly but as I said we could have restricted Punjab’s innings under 170-175 runs.

Jadeja said, “Apart from this, our batting was also not good in the opening overs, due to which the target was not built up.” In the match, Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged man of the match with an unbeaten 88 off 59 balls. Said that he had the advantage of playing patiently at the start of the innings.

Shikhar, who became the second batsman to complete 6000 runs in IPL, said, “I always work on process and positive attitude. The ball was coming to a halt on this pitch. I was patient at the start of the innings and then when I got a chance, I got runs easily.” Punjab captain Mayank credited the victory to the batting of Shikhar, along with the bowling of Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh.

He said, “I think Arshdeep bowled very well, credit should be given to him. He has bowled well in tough times throughout this season. Rabada also bowled well today and took the wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rayudu at the right time.
