HC asks BFI to produce evaluation forms of boxers

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) to produce the evaluation forms of three national champions Manju Rani, Shiksha Narwal and Poonam Punia who were not selected for the upcoming Women’s World Boxing Championships. The tournament will be played in Delhi from March 15 to 31. The High Court meanwhile refused to grant interim relief to the petitioners. Justice Pratibha M Singh said, “The evaluation forms should be produced on Monday.”

The high court was hearing a plea by the three boxers, whose counsel submitted that the players who were selected were defeated by the petitioners in the World Championships held in Bhopal in December 2022. BFI’s counsel Hrishikesh Barua said during the hearing that winning a gold medal is one of the eligibility criteria.

The players are then assessed based on the selection criteria for the national camp and World Championship 2023. He said that these players have been evaluated and their candidature has been rejected. The judge said, “Professional boxers have evaluated all of you and I cannot interfere in that.
