High Court will not interfere if women boxers are not selected, refused

New Delhi. The Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to interfere in the non-selection of three national champion boxers Manju Rani, Shiksha Narwal and Poonam Poonia for the World Women’s Boxing Championships.

Justice Pratibha M Singh said that no case is made out to interfere with the list of boxers selected for the sporting event after going through the medal count and evaluation certificates of the sportspersons and the petitioners would continue to be in the list of reserve sportspersons for the championship.

The judge said, “The court notices that the scope of interference in this writ petition is limited. The court also perused the evaluation certificates and medal tally. This is not a case of interference under Article 226. The team that is selected is allowed to represent India.” The World Boxing Championships are to be held in Delhi from March 15 to 31.
