Hockey Update: Indian women’s hockey team defeated by Netherlands
Cape Town. Despite putting up a tough fight, the Indian women’s hockey team went down 1-3 against world number one Netherlands in the first match of the three-match series here on Monday. The Savita Punia-led side suffered their first defeat of the tour after winning the four-match series 3-0 against hosts South Africa. India continued their fine form and started the match well and took the lead in the 24th minute through a brilliant field goal from youngster Beauty Dungdung.

The Indian team, however, could not celebrate for long as the Netherlands equalized in the 29th minute through Felice Albers from a penalty corner. The third quarter saw a tough fight between the two teams but neither team was able to score a goal. In the final quarter, however, the Netherlands dominated and scored two more goals to win. The goals were scored by Yibi Jansson and Freak Moyes.
