Here’s the wonderful conversation with Urvashi Agarwal, who shares insights on people can stay fit and healthy by working out at home too.

So, pls tell us if home workouts are good enough to keep a person fit and healthy?

Yes! They absolutely are. I have been exercising religiously at home since the lockdown announced last year in March. If done correctly and consistently, home workouts are very beneficial for everyone.

What kind of exercise routine can be done at home? Especially when people don’t have equipment.

Calisthenics is a great way to maintain and build strength and endurance. There are plenty of exercises, like Squats, Burpees, Planks, Push-ups, Mountain climbers, Jumping Jacks that a person can do in even a small space. Pilates and Yoga are great options too.

What would be your advice to people who are bored of working out at home and are looking to challenge themselves?

I’d say, get creative! Use Water bottles, Backpacks, Towels, Paper Plates, Sticks, Sturdy chair, Soccer ball, Walls, Water cans. Basically, make use of any equipment that you can get hold of.  Another great option is to sign up for online fitness classes. It’s a great way to stay fit and healthy without going out. I have been conducting online classes for more than a year and have successfully done many transformations.

People have been working from home for a while now and it may continue for some more time. What are the best practices that people need to follow?

Well! It’s quite a situation and I agree that it might continue for some more time. Professionals are working from home; kids are also attending classes online. So, there is a dire need to keep some pointers in mind. First, I’d recommend that no one sits for more than 45 mins at a stretch. Take frequent breaks. Sitting with the right ergonomics plays a vital role too. Do some stretches and active movements while sitting at the desk. Exercising daily for at least 30 mins for adults and 60 mins for kids is a fitness goal that everyone must commit and act upon. The more active we stay, the better it’s for our mind and body. So let’s stay positive, do our best and make the best of what we have right now.
