India beat Japan 5-1 in Sultan Johor Cup

The Indian junior men’s hockey team stunned Japan 5-1 on Tuesday to regain their winning streak in the Sultan of Johor Cup. Captain Uttam Singh (3rd minute), Rohit (12th), Johnson Purty (21st), Bobby Singh Dhami (31st) and Amandeep Lakra (51st) scored for India while Japan’s lone goal was scored by Ikumi Saki (15th). . The Indian players quickly dominated the game in a late start and kept Japan under pressure from the start. India got the advantage and took a 2-0 lead within 12 minutes.

Uttam smacked the Japanese goalkeeper in the third minute itself to give India the lead while Rohit then converted a penalty corner. Saki converted a penalty corner in the 15th minute to make the score 2-1. In the second quarter, both the teams started attacking but India got the advantage when Johnson Purty scored. India also started the second half brilliantly and Bobby Singh quickly added the fourth goal to Heatim’s account. India kept up the pressure even after this and ensured their big win by scoring a goal in the fourth quarter as well.
