I was a bit worried the second day, but we stuck to our plan: Rohit Sharma

The way Travis Head opened the batting on the second evening in the Delhi Test left the Indian camp a little jittery but skipper Rohit Sharma had a long chat with all three of his spinners and ensured that the hosts did not stray from their original plan. Opening the innings for the first time in the absence of the injured David Warner, Head made a rapid unbeaten 39 to take Australia to 61 for one at stumps on the second day of the second Test.

This worried Rohit a bit which forced him to have a chat with the spin trio of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel before the start of play on Sunday morning. In the end, the pair of Ashwin and Jadeja ensured India’s six-wicket victory. Rohit said, “Sometimes you have to keep things simple, not complicate what is happening. Yesterday he scored 61 runs for one wicket in 12 overs which was more than five runs per over. I could see that we were a bit nervous and we were trying to change the field quite a few times. ,

He said, “In the morning, I just wanted to tell these three spinners to be patient. We don’t need repeated fielding changes like we did last evening. We will bowl tight and let the batsman make mistakes. Rohit said after the match, “I could feel that they wanted to bat in that way (aggressively) and the wicket was not such that you go down and just start playing shots. “He said,” You had to strike a balance and put them under pressure. If he plays a few shots, we will not change our plans as a bowling unit. Akshar, Jaddu and Aish have played a lot of cricket in these conditions. You have to trust them when things are not going your way.
