India will host the Women’s World Boxing Championship in 2023 while India was stripped of hosting the Men’s World Championship two years ago for not paying the required fees. There has never been a men’s world championship in India but there will be a women’s championship for the third time. Earlier, the championship has been held in Delhi in 2006 and 2018.
“We have got the Women’s World Championship hosted and will now organize it in the end of March and the first week of April,” said Hemant Kalita, Secretary General of the Boxing Federation of India. International Boxing Federation President Omar Kremlov on his first tour to India. and the dates of the tournament will be decided during his visit. The tournament can be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

India lost the hosting of the men’s championship in 2021 to Serbia as the hosting fees were not paid. In the last Women’s World Championship, India had won three medals, including Nikhat Zareen’s gold medal.
