India vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI 2023 | Series winning Indian team can try bowling option in last ODI

Thiruvananthapuram. With India eyeing a series clean sweep with a win in the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka here on Sunday, skipper Rohit Sharma may not want to tinker with the batting line-up but may try to experiment with bowling options. After a comfortable win in Guwahati and a top-order collapse in Kolkata, India chased down the target to take an unassailable lead in the series. Now the players would like to continue the same performance in the last match of the tour.

The team will take on better rival New Zealand in less than 72 hours after this match and with a 3-0 clean sweep in this series against Sri Lanka, the players will be full of confidence for the upcoming series. Workload management may have its advantages but it also has some drawbacks like giving a player rest in between and he does not get the rhythm. This may be the reason why the Indian captain does not want to play Ishan Kishan in the top order or Suryakumar Yadav in the middle order in the last match. All the top five batsmen will look to bat more against the Sri Lankan attack at the bowler-friendly Greenfields Stadium, which also includes all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

So there might be some changes in the bowling line-up. With India playing six 50-over matches (three against Sri Lanka and as many against New Zealand) in a span of 14 days, Mohammed Shami’s workload will certainly be a major concern for the Indian team management. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Shami is expected to lead the Indian attack during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, so his workload will be taken into account the most. If he remains fit, he is expected to bowl around 125 to 130 overs in these four Tests. Left arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh can be tried for variety as he too needs some ‘game time’. Arshdeep can be very beneficial if the wicket remains favourable.

Kuldeep Yadav was again the player of the match, replacing the injured Yuzvendra Chahal (shoulder injury). It will be interesting to see what captain and head coach Rahul Dravid will do if he is fit. Axar Patel will take a break during the New Zealand series due to personal reasons. If the team wants to try out Washington Sundar before this series, then the third ODI would be the ideal platform. In the batting department, Shubman Gill would also like to continue his good form as he knows that Kishan is a strong contender to open the innings. As far as the Sri Lankan team is concerned, the good thing for them is that this 50-over series has produced some great talent in the form of opener Nuanidu Fernando, who scored a half-century on debut.

The squads are as follows: India: Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Lokesh Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Akshar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh. Sri Lanka: Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Sadeera Samarawickram, Charit Aslanka, Dhananjaya DeSilva, Wanindu Hasaranga, Ashen Bandara, Mahesh Teekshana, Chamika Karunaratne, Dilshan Madushanka, Kasun Rajitha, Nuvanidu Fernando, Dunith Velalage, Pramod Madushan and Lahiru Kumar. Time: The match will start at 1.30 pm.
