India will have do or die situation in the second T20 match between IndvsNZ, strong performance will have to be shown to stay in the series

Lucknow. The Indian team, which lost the first match due to the failure of the top-order batsmen and poor performance of the main bowlers, will have to win the second match against New Zealand here on Sunday at any cost to stay alive in the three-match T20 series. The Hardik Pandya-led side fell to the spin trap of New Zealand in the first match in Ranchi and suffered a 21-run defeat. The weakness of the Indian fast bowlers also came to the fore in this match as fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik put the team under pressure by scoring runs.

Where Malik gave 16 runs in his one over, Arshdeep looted 27 runs in the last over of the innings. This put pressure on the Indian team which came out to chase the target. Arshdeep’s last over ultimately proved to be the turning point of the match. India’s batting did not start well and their top three batsmen could only add 15 runs. If India was able to reduce the margin of defeat, the credit goes to all-rounder Washington Sundar who scored a half-century. Washington later admitted that a score of 150 would have been equal.

Despite this, captain Pandya will give a chance to fast bowler Mukesh Kumar to make his debut, it seems less likely. He might possibly give Arshdeep a chance to make a comeback. Shubman Gill was in excellent form in ODIs but he could not maintain it in T20s. He has played only four T20 International cricket matches so far and he is sure to be given further chances but the biggest concern for the team is the form of Ishan Kishan and Deepak Hooda. Kishan had scored a double century in ODIs against Bangladesh in December last year but after that he could not maintain the form. Coming in as an opener, the wicket-keeper batsman has played innings of 37, 2, 1, 5, 8 not out, 17 and 4 after that. If we talk about T20 International only, then in this format he scored his last half-century against South Africa on 14 June 2022.

Hooda has also not been able to achieve much success as a ‘power hitter’. He averages only 17.88 in the last 13 innings. Meanwhile, his highest score was 41 not out against Sri Lanka in Mumbai. He was able to score only 10 runs in 10 balls in the first match in Ranchi on Friday. Despite this, Jitesh Sharma is unlikely to be brought in as a wicket-keeper batsman in the middle order. Despite the loss in the first match, Washington Sundar’s performance was a positive for India. Apart from bowling economically, he also scored 50 runs in 28 balls while batting at number six. World number one T20 batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been in fine form but needs support from the top-order batsmen. As for New Zealand, they will leave no stone unturned to win the series in India. It will once again rest on Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell.

Teams are as follows
India: Hardik Pandya (captain), Suryakumar Yadav (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Jitesh Sharma (wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik , Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar.

New Zealand: Mitchell Santner (c), Finn Allen, Devon Conway (wk), Glenn Phillips, Dane Cleaver (wk), Mark Chapman, Michael Bracewell, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Ripon, Lockie Ferguson, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, Jacob Duffy, Henry Shipley and Ben Lister. The match will start at 7 pm Indian time.
