India will not travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup: Jay Shah

Cricket Board of India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday clarified that the Indian team will not tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup next year and demanded that the tournament be held at a neutral venue. The 2023 season of the Asia Cup will be played in the 50-over format. The tournament, to be played before the World Cup to be held in India, has been handed over to Pakistan.

After the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the CI, Shah said, “We have decided that we will not go to Pakistan. We will play at a neutral venue.” Shah was re-elected as secretary for a second term at this AGM. He is also the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Even before this, the Asia Cup has been organized at a neutral venue. Host Sri Lanka expressed its inability to host the Asia Cup 2022 amid the economic crisis, after which it was organized in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India and Pakistan teams play each other only in Asia Cup and global events due to political tension between the two countries. Both the teams had faced each other twice in the Asia Cup last month.
