Indian junior badminton players beat Slovenia 5-0 in the final group match
The Indian team thrashed Slovenia 5-0 in their fourth and final Group B match at the World Junior Mixed Team Badminton Championships in Santander, Spain on Wednesday. Mixed doubles pair of Vignesh Thathinani and Srinidhi Narayanan started with a 21-11 21-9 win over Jiga Podgoresk and Spela Alik. Aayush Shetty won the men’s singles 21-5 21-5 over Kevin Lynn Lennarsich.
The pair of Nicolas Raj and Tushar Suveer turned India’s favor by defeating Anel Hak Gyorkos and Mark Corosa 21-15, 21-14 in the men’s doubles match. Rakshita Ramraj registered a 21-4 21-4 win over Anja Jordan in the women’s singles. Women’s doubles pair of Shreya Balaji and Srinidhi Narayanan defeated Nika Bedich and Kim Matovic 21-9, 21-6. India thus finished second in Group B by three points. The team won over Iceland, Australia and Slovenia. The team’s only defeat came from group toppers China.

China is the most successful team of the tournament having won 13 titles. The Indian team will now play playoff matches against the second-placed teams from the other groups to finish best of nine to 16. The team finished 12th in 2019 and the team’s best performance was fourth in the 2008 stage.
