Indian women’s hockey player Salima Tete appointed athlete ambassador of AHF

Indian women’s hockey team midfielder Salima Tete was on Thursday appointed as the athlete ambassador of the AHF for two years. Tate accepted the certificate and the title during the Congress of the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) in Mungyong, Korea. She will take over this responsibility from March 25. Tete, who led the Indian women’s junior hockey team to a fourth-place finish at the 2021 FIH Women’s Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa, is one of the four players from Asia appointed to the post.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey also congratulated Tete for the honor and said, “It is heartening to see one of our Indian players as an AHF athlete ambassador. Salima (Tete) has been one of the bright spots for India over the past two years and has shown her leadership abilities on the field. As an AHF Athlete Ambassador, Tete will play a key role in the international representation and development of athletes along with other selected Asia members.

She will also work towards increasing awareness among sportspersons from this field. Tete said in a statement to Hockey India, “I am honored to be selected as one of the AHF athlete ambassadors. As players from Asia, we face a lot of challenges in our career. This post will help me put our voice forward. Hopefully, with this position, I will be able to help make a positive impact on the lives of players in this region.
