Sanjita Chanu Ban: Commonwealth Games champion weightlifter Sanjita Chanu banned for 4 years, one mistake jeopardized her entire career

Two-time Commonwealth Games champion weightlifter Sanjita Chanu has been banned for four years. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has imposed this ban on Sanjita Chanu for failing the dope test last year. The decision to ban Sanjita has been taken by the disciplinary panel of NADA.

It is alleged that Sanjita was found using banned drugs during a test during the National Games in Gujarat in September-October last year. The tests revealed that Sanjita has been found positive for the anabolic steroid – Drostanolone metabolite. This steroid is included in the banned list of the World Anti-Doping Agency. In the matter of banning Sanjita, the President of Indian Weightlifting Federation Sahdev Yadav has also confirmed this by giving a statement.

According to the information, Sanjita has been hit twice. He has not only been banned for four years but has also been stripped of the silver medal won by him in the National Games. So far no response has been received from Sanjita in this matter. Please tell that this player of Manipur can appeal against this decision in the coming time. As per rules, Sanjita has 21 days from the date of the decision to appeal to the NADA Appellate Panel.

Please tell that this is not the first time when Sanjita’s name is embroiled in controversy due to doping. Earlier, in November 2017, even before the World Championships held in the US, she had tested positive for the anabolic steroid testosterone. During this, the International Weightlifting Federation banned him in 2018. However, two years after the ban, i.e. in 2020, he was freed from the charges leveled against him.
