“It’s official! We have DT for 2022. Jorge Francisco Almirón returns to ‘Granate’ », published the Lanús account on Twitter as a surprise dedicated to the fans.

Almirón, 50, left a great memory in the club during his previous time (2016-2017) by winning three titles and qualifying for the final of the Libertadores for the first time in history.

With a team that included José Sand, Lautaro Acosta and the Paraguayan Miguel Almirón, the «Granate» was champion of Argentine soccer in 2016 after beating San Lorenzo (4-0) in a final at the River Plate stadium and that same year he added the Bicentennial Cup and the Argentine Super Cup.

The next, Lanús reached the highest level of the Libertadores and fell with Gremio de Porto Alegre.

“Good evening to all the ‘garnets’, I want to wish you a very merry Christmas, I hope we all have an excellent 2022 together. See you soon in La Fortaleza, cheers,” declared the DT in an institutional video.

Almirón, who will replace Luis Zubeldia, had as his last step in Elche in Spain and his previous experience in Argentine football, highly questioned, was recorded in San Lorenzo between November 2018 and June 2019.

Previously, he also directed in Defense and Justice (two cycles), Tijuana de México, Godoy Cruz de Mendoza, Independiente and Atlético Nacional de Colombia.
