IOC asks IOA to appoint CEO without delay

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has asked the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to appoint a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) without any further delay. The IOC also confirmed that the 140th session will be held in Mumbai this year. The IOC formally accepted the results of the IOA elections during its Executive Board meeting here on Wednesday night.

According to a statement released from the IOC, “The Executive Board took note that the NOC (National Olympic Committee) elections on 6 December 2022 were successfully held and a new President was elected. The IOC formally accepted the results of the elections and also confirmed that the 2023 IOC Session would be held in Mumbai. ,

“The NOC, however, has not yet appointed a new CEO/Secretary General as per the constitution,” the statement said. The IOC Executive Board urged the NOCs of India to finalize the appointment process without any further delay.” A Supreme Court-appointed committee drafted the IOA’s constitution, which was approved by the IOC. According to this constitution, the IOA was to appoint the CEO within one month after the formation of the Executive Council. The CEO will take over the functions of the General Secretary.

The new IOA council, headed by PT Usha, assumed office on December 10, but the CEO has not been appointed till date. Kalyan Choubey, joint secretary of the IOA and president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), has been discharging the functions of the CEO. The CEO shall be an ex-officio member of the Executive Council without the right to vote. The 140th session of the IOC will be held on October 15, 16 and 17 at the Jio World Center in Mumbai.
