Aiden Markram will lead Sunrisers in IPL

Hyderabad. South African all-rounder Aiden Markram was on Thursday appointed as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting March 31. Sunrisers announced on their Twitter handle, “The wait is over. Meet our new captain Aiden Markram.” New Zealand’s Kane Williamson led the Sunrisers last season where the team finished eighth among 10 teams with six wins and eight losses. Williamson was released by Sunrisers ahead of this year’s auction where Gujarat Titans signed him. In the upcoming season, Sunrisers team will play their first match against Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad on 2nd April.

Markram was considered the frontrunner for the Sunrisers Hyderabad captaincy after leading Sunrisers Eastern Cape to title triumph in the inaugural SA20 tournament in Johannesburg recently. Markram was in scintillating form in the SA20 league. Apart from scoring 366 runs in his team’s title win, he also took 11 wickets for which he was voted the player of the tournament. IPL 2023 will begin with the match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans on March 31 in Ahmedabad.
