IPL 2023: Bhai-Bhai fight, Krunal’s stalwarts could not stand in front of Hardik Pandya’s army, GT beat LSG

Ahmedabad. Openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha struck blistering half-centuries and a century partnership between the two to help Gujarat Titans post 227 for two against Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League on Sunday. Apart from scoring an unbeaten 94 off 51 balls with two fours and seven sixes, Gill shared a 142-run partnership for the first wicket with Saha (81 off 43 balls, 10 fours, four sixes) to give the Titans their best IPL performance. Scored up. Captain Hardik Pandya (25) and David Miller (21 not out) also made useful contributions.

Titans’ previous best score was 207 for six against Mumbai Indians last year. Super Giants captain Krunal Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first, after which the opening pair of Saha and Gill got the team off to a stormy start. The pair added 78 runs in the power play without losing a wicket, which is an IPL record for the Titans. Saha showed stormy attitude from the beginning. He also hit Avesh Khan for a six and a four off successive deliveries after hitting Mohsin Khan (1/42) for two consecutive fours in the first over. Saha hit two sixes and two fours in the fourth over of Mohsin’s innings to collect 22 runs while Gill also hit Krunal and Yash Thakur for sixes.

Saha hit Thakur for a six to bring up his fifty in just 20 balls, his fastest fifty in the IPL. Saha welcomed Kyle Myers with three fours while Gill hit Ravi Bishnoi for a six to bring up his team’s hundred in the ninth over. Gill completed his fourth half-century of the current tournament in 29 balls with one run off Krunal. Saha, however, was caught by substitute player Prerak Mankad at the boundary in an attempt to play a big shot on Avesh (1/34) in the 13th over. Gill and skipper Hardik Pandya (25) hit Marcus Stoinis for a six to take Gujarat to 176 for one in 15 overs.

Mohsin gave another blow to Gujarat by catching Hardik at the hands of Krunal in the covers. David Miller completed the team’s double century in the 18th over with a four off Yash Thakur. Miller charged in the 19th over while Gill hit Thakur for a six in the final over.
