IPL’s Lucknow franchise will be named UP Warriors

The Lucknow franchise owned by Capri Global Holdings Pvt Ltd in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be named ‘UP Warriors’. The Cricket Board of India had auctioned this WPL for five teams in which Capri Global Holdings Pvt Ltd bought the Lucknow franchise for Rs 757 crore. The logo of the UP Warriors consists of a sun-rayed stork with its wings spread and a sword on a shield.

Former England cricketer John Lewis has been appointed as the head coach of the team while former Arjuna Award winner Anju Jain will be the assistant coach. Former Australia cricketer Ashley Noffke will be the bowling coach while four-time world champion Lisa Sthalekar from Australia will be the team’s mentor.

Lewis, the current head coach of the England women’s team, is vastly experienced and has taken over 1200 wickets in over 500 matches at international and domestic level. The WPL will be held in Mumbai from March 4 to 26. All its 22 matches will be played at Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. The players’ auction for the WPL will be held in Mumbai on February 13.
