Tejinder Pal Toor breaks his Asian record, qualifies for World Championship

Asian Games 2018 gold medalist Tejinder Pal Singh Toor recorded a throw of 21.77m on the final day of the National Interstate Championship. As soon as he put this throw, he has broken the national record in the shotput competition. The 28-year-old athlete threw 21.77 meters in the third throw at the Kalinga Stadium to achieve the record.

And the qualifying standard for the World Championships is 21.40 metres. Although he has qualified for this. Along with this, he has also qualified for the Asian Games, whose standard is 19 meters.

Toor is an Asian Games gold medalist which he achieved with a throw of 21.09 metres. His second throw was foul during this and in the third he destroyed the Asian record. His next two attempts were fouled. After this he did not participate in the final attempt.

Punjab’s Karanveer Singh, who finished second with a throw of 19.78m, also qualified for the Asian Games, while Jyoti Yaraji, who won gold medals in 100m and 100m hurdles, was adjudged the best female athlete. Both of them qualified for the Asian Games whose qualifying standard is 6.45m. In javelin throw, Rohit Yadav of Uttar Pradesh, Kishore Kumar Jena of Odisha and Shivpal Singh of Uttar Pradesh qualified for the Asian Games by clearing the qualifying standard of 78.23m. Rohit threw the javelin at 83.28m while Kishore and Shivpal cleared 82.87m and 81.96m respectively. Delhi’s KM Chanda and Harmilan Bains clocked 2:04.57s to qualify for the Hangzhou Asian Games in the women’s 800m race.

Chanda finished first in 2:03.82 while Bains finished second in 2:04.04. Madhya Pradesh’s KM Diksha won the bronze medal with a timing of 2:04.35. Chanda won the bronze medal in the women’s 1500m event. India’s Birmingham Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Anu Rani booked her Asian Games ticket in the women’s javelin throw event. He threw the javelin at 58.22m, which was better than the Asian Games qualifying standard of 56.46m. Haryana’s 16-year-old Pooja equaled the Asian Games qualifying standard with an effort of 1.80m in the women’s high jump. Assam’s Amlan Borgohain won the men’s 200m gold in 20.72s but fell short of the Asian Games qualifying standard of 20.61s.
