Ishan Kishan tries to copy Tom Latham as Hardik gets out

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s bizarre dismissal in the first ODI against New Zealand led to an awkward on-field situation between the two teams here on Wednesday. Hardik (28) was adjudged bowled by third umpire KN Ananth Padmanabhan even though the position was unclear. Hardik Santner misses a cut shot and the bails fall, prompting New Zealand to appeal for bowled. It is possible that the wicket-keeper Tom Latham hit the gloves and fell, but he was not sure. Even in the replay it was not clear but the third umpire gave the decision in favor of the visiting team.

When Latham came out to bat, Ishan adopted his style of keeping very close to the wicket. When Latham played his first ball, Ishan scattered his balls against spinner Kuldeep Yadav when the ball was not in his hand. He also appealed for out after this. Latham was inside the crease during this time. This appeal of dismissal against him was exasperated by former veteran Sunil Gavaskar, who was commentating at that time. Gavaskar said, “It was fine to drop the bails but he should not have appealed.
