Kapurthala Gurdwara manager arrested for lynching, CM Channi said – no evidence of sacrilege

Amarjeet Singh, the manager of Nizampur Gurdwara in Kapurthala, was arrested on Friday for allegedly leading a mob that killed a man in an attempted sacrilege. The Gurdwara manager had alleged that he had seen the man trying to disrespect the ‘Nishan Sahib’ or religious flag. The Kapurthala lynching took place on December 19, a day after a similar incident at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, where another man was allegedly lynched in an attempt to desecrate. The man killed is yet to be identified, but the post-mortem report revealed about 30 injuries, most of them inflicted by swords. The report said the man had deep wounds on his neck, head, chest and right hip of the body and he may have become breathless after a deep cut on the neck. The board of doctors who conducted the autopsy also took the victim’s viscera for chemical examination to ascertain whether he had intoxicated or not.
