Kenya’s Chebet and Lokedi win New York Marathon on debut
Kenya’s Evans Chebet and Sharon Lokedy made their debuts to win the New York Marathon titles in the men’s and women’s categories respectively here on Sunday. Both of them outperformed their rivals on a relatively hot day. Chebet finished first in two hours, eight minutes and 41 seconds. He finished 13 seconds ahead of second-placed Shura Kitata of Ethiopia. The men’s race was rocked when Brazilian runner Daniel do Nascimento fell down after completing 21 miles. Organizers later said he was fine.

Nacimento then held the lead. None of the American runners failed to win the title again. America has not won the New York Marathon title since 2009. This was Lokedi’s first marathon in the women’s section in which she won. She took two hours, 23 minutes and 23 seconds to beat Israel’s Lona Kemtai Salpeter.
