Opposition demands division over election law ( Derek O’Brien suspended)
The opposition members strongly opposed the bill and asked the government to withdraw it and finally staged a walkout from the house when the Deputy Speaker citing the members are in the well and as per the rule division cannot be given in this situation. His demand was not allowed. The opposition was demanding a split on the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which aims to give effect to long-pending electoral reforms, including linking Aadhaar with voter ID. When there was no division in the opposition, all their members staged a walkout from the house. Meanwhile, with the suspension of Derek from the Rajya Sabha, the total number of suspended MPs from the House now stands at 13.
