League one: Messi’s goal in PSG’s victory, Mbappe injured

Paris. World Cup-winning footballer Lionel Messi scored a goal in Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) 3-1 win against Montpellier while team stalwart Kylian Mbappe was injured after missing twice from the penalty spot. The win saw PSG consolidate their position at the top of the Ligue 1 (France’s top domestic league) table and extend their lead to five points. Messi scored in the 72nd minute of the match to increase PSG’s lead to 2-0. Prior to that, Fabian Ruiz opened the team’s account in the 55th minute, while Warren Jaure-Emery scored in the last moments (90+2 minutes) to ensure a big win for the team.

Meanwhile, Arnaud Nordin reduced the margin of defeat for Montpellier in the 89th minute. Mbappe limped off the field in the 21st minute of the match. PSG coach Christophe Gaultier, however, said after the match that his injury did not appear to be serious. In other matches, defending champions Marseille beat Nantes 2–0, Nice beat Lens 1–0. Monaco won 3–2 against Auxerre, Rennes won 3–0 against Strasbourg while Lyon held Brest to a goalless draw.
