Legitimate demands of wrestlers should be fulfilled, fair investigation should be done: Sachin Pilot

Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot said on Friday that the “justified demand” of the protesting wrestlers should be met at the earliest and a fair investigation should be conducted within the ambit of the law of the country. Pilot reached Jantar Mantar in the morning in support of the protesting wrestlers, including Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and Asian Games gold medalist Vinesh Phogat. The protesting wrestlers are demanding the arrest of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for allegedly sexually assaulting women wrestlers, including a minor.

Pilot said, “I request all those who are listening to me that all the legitimate demands of the players should be met at the earliest and action should be taken as per the law and constitution of the country. It is clearly mentioned (in the Constitution) how action should be taken.” The wrestlers have set May 21 as the deadline for Brij Bhushan’s arrest. Failing this, they will meet Khaps and senior people of the villages and decide the framework to take the movement forward.

Pilot said, “For the last 26-27 days our top players are suffering. They are demanding action for the wrong done to them. They have been pleading and waiting for so many days so that they get their due respect. We want their voices to be heard and they get justice. We want a fair probe into what the wrestlers are demanding. He has made us proud. They should be heard within the ambit of the law. If there is delay in giving justice to them, then we should introspect why this is happening and under whose pressure it is happening.
