Lovlina, Nikhat won gold in national boxing, team trophy named after Railways

Tokyo Olympics bronze-medallist Lovlina Borgohain and defending world champion Nikhat Zareen won gold medals in the finals of the Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships, while the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) won the team trophy with 10 medals, here on Monday. . Assam’s Lovlina beat Army Sports Promotion Board’s (SSCB) Arundhati Chowdhary 5-0 in the 75kg final, while Nikhat faced a tough fight from RSPB’s Anamika in 50kg.

He however defended his title with a 4–1 decision. World Championship silver medalist Manju Rani led the RSPB’s dominance on the last day of competition. She defeated Tamil Nadu’s S Kalaivani 5-0 in the 48kg final. Shiksha (54kg), Poonam (60kg), Shashi Chopra (63kg) and Nupur (81kg) became the other RSPB gold medalists. RSPB also won three silver and two bronze medals. The silver medal of the championship went to Madhya Pradesh (one gold, two silver and five bronze) and the bronze medal to Haryana (two gold and two bronze medals).

Boxer Sanamacha Chanu, who won the gold medal in the Youth World Championship 2021, defeated Madhya Pradesh’s Shruti Yadav 3-2 in the 70 kg category. Haryana’s Manisha (57kg) and Sweety (81kg), SSCB’s Sakshi (52kg), Madhya Pradesh’s Manju Bamboriya (66kg) also won gold medals in their respective categories in the tournament. In this competition, 302 boxers participated in 12 categories.
