Maharashtra’s weightlifter Akanksha Vyahe made three national records in the 40 kg weight category

Weightlifter Akanksha Vihare from Maharashtra created three national records in the 40kg weight category of the Khelo India National Ranking Women’s Weightlifting Tournament here. This lifter is part of the ‘TOPS’ (Target Olympic Podium Scheme). Apart from snatch, he set records in clean and jerk and total weight on Friday. Akanksha improved her own national record in the snatch by lifting 60 kg.He lifted 71 kg in clean and jerk to make his total score of 131 kg. Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu was present during the opening ceremony of the championship.

Talking about the importance of Khelo India Women’s League, Mirabai said, “These leagues are very important as a lot of girls are representing different states and union territories of the country. This will be a very beneficial experience for all the girls in future. Mirabai had won a gold medal in the first leg of the Khelo India weightlifting tournament in Himachal Pradesh earlier this year.
