Markram would like to prove leadership skills; HRH will be on Mayank, Sundar and Umran

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team would like to leave behind the poor performance of the last few seasons under the supervision of captain Aiden Markram and coach Brian Lara in the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The upcoming season of IPL is starting from 31st March. SRH team will start their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on the home ground on 2nd April. Under the leadership of Markram, the team of ‘Sunrisers Eastern Cape’ was successful in winning the title of ‘SA20’ league held for the first time.

He will have the challenge of proving his leadership skills in the IPL. The SRH team, however, is changing its captain for the third consecutive year. The team finished at the bottom of the table in 2021, while in 2022 it finished eighth out of 10 teams. After winning the title in 2016, the biggest issue for SRH has been the captaincy, with Australian opener David Warner and talismanic New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson costing the team defeats in the last two seasons.

Strength: To strengthen their top-order, SRH have included Indian batsman Mayank Agarwal in addition to aggressive youngster Harry Brook from England. Brooke is considered the future of English cricket and has scored 2,432 runs in 99 T20 matches at a strike rate of 148.32. Lara was the team’s strategic advisor and batting coach last season but will replace Tom Moody as the head coach this season. The team’s batting line-up is long and there is no dearth of options.

Mayank, Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi will be at the top of the order while Markram, Brooke and Glenn Phillips or Heinrich Klaasen are likely to feature in the middle order. Along with this, Washington Sundar and Marco Jansen are also adept at scoring fast runs. HRH also has a strong fast bowling attack. Apart from the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the team also has Umran Malik, Jansen, T. Natarajan and Karthik Tyagi. Afghanistan’s left-arm fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqui has impressed a lot in recent times.

Weakness: The Hyderabad team does not have many options in spin-bowling. England’s experienced Adil Rashid will need the support of Sundar, Markram, Abhishek and Mayank Markande. Apart from Mayank Agarwal and Rahul Tripathi, the team does not have an experienced Indian batsman at the top of the order. While Abhishek Sharma had a decent 2022 season, Abdul Samad and Anmolpreet Singh failed to impress. Opportunity: This is an opportunity for Markram to prove his leadership skills and cement his position as the leading batsman in international cricket.

This South African cricket would like to prove that the title of ‘SA20’ was no coincidence. The tournament will also give Mayank, Umran, Sundar and T. Natarajan a chance to stake their claim for the national team. Threat: There is a dearth of experienced Indian batsmen in the team. In such a situation, there will be a lack of options in the top order if Mayank or Tripathi gets injured. Players like Anmolpreet, Nitish Reddy, Upendra Yadav, Samad, Mayank Dagar, Vivrant Sharma, Sanveer Singh and Samarth Vyas lack experience of top-level cricket.

Teams depend on foreign players like Phillips, Klaasen, Brooke and Markram to score big. Squad: Abdul Samad, Aiden Markram (c), Rahul Tripathi, Glenn Phillips, Abhishek Sharma, Marco Jansen, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Fazalhaq Farooqui, Karthik Tyagi, T Natarajan, Umran Malik, Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Akil Hussain, Heinrich Klaasen, Anmolpreet Singh, Adil Rashid, Mayank Markande, Vivrant Sharma, Mayank Dagar, Samarth Vyas, Sanveer Singh, Upendra Singh Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy.
