Mehuli wins women’s rifle trials, Ankur tops men’s rapid fire

West Bengal’s Mehuli Ghosh and Uttarakhand’s Ankur Goyal won the women’s 10m air rifle trial one and the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol trial two respectively in Group A at the national shooting here on Wednesday. In the gold medal round, Mehuli beat Tamil Nadu’s R Narmada Nitin 17-9 while Ankur beat Rajasthan’s Bhavesh Shekhawat 29-25. Narmada had topped the qualification with a score of 633.5 after 60 shots, while Mehuli shot 631.2.

Bronze medalist Olympian Elavenil Valarivan finished fifth in qualifying. In the top eight, both Narmada and Mehuli topped the table with identical scores of 264.2. In the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol trial two, Ankur finished fourth in qualifying with a score of 580. Silver medalist Bhavesh finished on top with a score of 585. Bronze medalist Vijayveer also finished fifth in qualifying with a score of 580. In the junior category, Delhi’s Agneya Kaushik and Madhya Pradesh’s Gautami Bhanot won the men’s rapid fire pistol trial two and the women’s air rifle trial one, respectively.
