MS Dhoni’s statement came after the defeat against Gujarat Titans, said it would have been better if 15 to 20 more runs were scored

Ahmedabad. Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said after a five-wicket defeat against defending champions Gujarat Titans in the first match of the Indian Premier League 2023 here on Friday, it would have been better if his team had scored 15 to 20 more runs. Chasing the Super Kings’ target of 179, the Gujarat team won by scoring 182 for five with four balls to spare thanks to a half-century from opener Shubman Gill (63 off 36 balls).

Earlier, the Superkings scored 178 runs for seven wickets with the half-century of opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (92 runs in 50 balls, nine sixes, four fours). However, apart from him, only Moeen Ali (23) could cross the 20-run mark. For Gujarat, leg-spinner Rashid Khan took 26, Mohammed Shami took 29 while Alzarri Joseph took two wickets for 33 runs.

Dhoni said after the match, “It would have been better if 15 to 20 more runs had been scored. We all knew there would be some dew. The match was to start at 7.30 pm, so the ball comes with a slight delay in the beginning. Also, we could have batted better in the middle overs.” Praising Ruturaj, Dhoni said, “It is great to watch Ruturaj bat. He has prepared himself very well and makes the right decisions under pressure. Chennai bowlers bowled two no balls to which Dhoni said he has to avoid it as it is under his control.
