Nat Sciver Brunt’s unbeaten 60 off 55 balls helped Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by seven wickets to win their maiden Women’s Premier League title after a stellar performance from their bowlers led by Healy Mathews. Delhi Capitals scored 131 runs for nine wickets with the help of a 52-run partnership for the tenth wicket between Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav. In response, Mumbai scored 134 runs for three wickets with three balls to spare.
Skiver Brunt handled one end and hit seven fours in his 55-ball innings. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also played an innings of 37 runs in 39 balls. In the end, Amelia Kerr scored an unbeaten 14 in eight balls to lead the team to victory. Earlier, the bowlers of Mumbai performed amazingly. Delhi’s score was 74 for three in the 11th over.
After this, six wickets fell in the space of five runs and the score was 79 for nine after the 16th over. Mumbai’s overseas bowlers did a stellar job with Hayley Mathews taking three wickets for just five runs in four overs while Isabelle Wong took three wickets for 42 runs and Amelia Kerr two wickets for 18 runs. For Delhi, Shikha and Radha shared an unbroken 52-run partnership to take the team past 100 runs.
Shikha scored 27 not out in 17 balls and Radha scored 27 not out in 12 balls. Shikha hit three fours and a six in her innings while Radha hit two fours and two sixes. Earlier, Mathews, Wong and Kerr took eight wickets between them to take Mumbai to a strong position. Caribbean all-rounder Mathews equaled UP Warriors’ Sophie Ecclestone with 16 wickets in the tournament. Wong and Kerr hit 15 in the tournament. Took 15 wickets.
The final at the Brabourne Stadium got off to a dramatic start as Mumbai took the first three wickets off full toss deliveries from Wong. The first two decisions were given by the third umpire. Shafali Verma started off by hitting Wong for a six over long-on and the next ball for a four, but was caught at point off Kerr. Wong then dismissed Alice Capsey without opening the account, who was brilliantly caught by Amjot Kaur at extra cover.
Jemimah Rodrigues started off with a four off the first ball. He hit Nat Sciver Brunt for another four in the third over. Earlier, Lanning hit two fours in the first two balls. However, on Wong’s full toss, Jemica returned by catching Healy Mathews at point. At the end of the powerplay, Delhi’s score was 38 for three. The score was 68 for three in ten overs. The collapse of Delhi’s innings began after the 11th over and nine wickets fell for 79 runs after which Radha and Shikha took charge.
