Nakashima defeats Isner in Indian Wells tournament

Indian Wells. Brendan Nakashima stormed into the second round of the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament with a straight-set victory over John Isner in an All-American match here on Wednesday. Nakashima broke Isner 7-6, 6-3, breaking his only serve of the match. Isner committed a total of 25 unforced errors in the match, including seven double faults. The 21-year-old Nakashima, on the other hand, committed only seven unforced errors in the match. World number 48 Nakashima will face a tough challenge in the next round from 2022 US Open champion and former world number one Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev, who has won 14 matches in a row, has won his last three tournaments. He got a bye in the first round.

In the women’s section, world number 427 Yevgenia Rodina caused an upset by defeating number 68 Alize Cornet 6-2, 7-5 while Wang Xinyu crashed out of Elise Mertens 6-3, 6-1. Shelby Rogers defeated wild card holder Katie Volinets 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. In the men’s section, Marcos Giron beat Aleksandr Kovacevich 6-3, 7-5, Ugo Humbert beat Bernabe Zapata 6-2, 7-6, Jason Kubler beat Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-6, while Oscar Otey Defeated Lasjo Jaier 6-3, 7-5.
