Congress demands resignation of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in connection with Jignesh Mevani’s arrest

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma should resign immediately if there is any morality left in Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, referring to the judge’s remarks in the case of arrest of Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani by the Assam Police. . A court in Assam’s Barpeta district on Friday pulled up the state police for registering a “false FIR” while granting Mevani bail in a case related to the alleged “assault” on a woman police officer. Barpeta District and Sessions Judge Aparesh Chakraborty, while hearing the bail plea, referred to police encounters in the last one year and urged the Gauhati High Court to direct the state police force to “reform itself”.

In the case registered at the Barpeta Road police station, Mevani was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 1,000. Regarding this matter, Congress’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted, “The BJP conspiracy to implicate brother Jignesh Mevani in a fake case has been exposed today, by ignoring the Constitution and the law. The court’s remarks are a slap on the cowardly act of suppressing the voice of truth by misuse of police force.” He asked, “Will the BJP now hide its failures by creating a police state?” Said, “The sharp remarks made by the judge about the Assam Police raise questions on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. If there is any morality and shame left in the Chief Minister of Assam, he should resign immediately.

But I know that there is no morality and localism in Chief Minister Sarma. He said that the role of Assam Police should be probed and those responsible should be prosecuted. Referring to the clashes in Punjab’s Patiala, Supriya hit out at Aam Aadmi Party convener Kejriwal and said, “It is unfortunate that all this has happened in Punjab. Those who used to cry for no police and administration till yesterday, what are they doing today? Why has his administration failed today?
