Former India defender Mahesh Gawli appointed head coach of India’s U-20 men’s team

Former India defender Mahesh Gawli has been appointed the head coach of the U-20 men’s team. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced this on Sunday. Gawli will thus replace Kshanmugam Venkatesh, who decided to step down as the Indian team failed to qualify for the AFC U-20 Asia Cup. The decision was taken by the AIFF’s technical committee headed by IM Vijayan.

The AIFF said, “The committee recommended the name of former defender Mahesh Gawli for the post of head coach of the Indian U-20 men’s national team. According to the statement, in addition to the responsibility of the Under-20 team, Gavli will continue as an assistant coach in the senior team with Igor Stimac.
