New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by an innings to win the series 2-0

Sri Lanka’s team could not avoid an innings defeat in the second Test against New Zealand despite the patient game of the tail batsmen after the half-centuries of Dhananjay de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal. Playing the follow-on, the Sri Lankan team started the fourth day with 113 runs for two wickets. The batsmen tore through the New Zealand bowlers throughout the day but could not meet the challenge of the last overs. New Zealand had to bowl for two and a half hours to take the last two wickets.

The Sri Lankan team, which was bowled out for 164 runs in just 67 overs in the first innings, batted for 142 overs in the second innings and scored 358 runs. New Zealand declared their first at 580 for four. Dhananjaya de Silva scored 98 and Dinesh Chandimal scored 62 to help Sri Lanka bat throughout the day. After this, Kusal Rajitha batted for two and a half hours, Prabhat Jayasuriya and Lahiru Kumara for one hour each. These batsmen tried their best to drag the match on the fifth day but captain Tim Southee caught Kasun Rajita and gave the team victory. Rajita batted till 110 balls and contributed 20 runs. For New Zealand, Blair Tickner took three for 84 and Mitchell Bracewell took two for 100 runs.
