Next target is to break into top 100 in FIFA rankings: AIFF President Choubey
All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Choubey on Saturday said that the next target of the Indian team is to break into the top 100 in the FIFA rankings. India has jumped five places to 101st in the latest FIFA rankings, fresh from winning the Triangular Tournament (India, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan) title. In the AIFF’s latest ‘Vision 2047 newsletter’, Choubey said, “Wins over Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan in the tournament helped India improve its FIFA rankings, while Manipur as a state proved to be a wonderful host.” ”
“We are currently at 101st position, our next focus is to cross the 100 mark mark,” he added. For this, we will try and move forward. India had achieved the best ever ranking of 94th in February 1996 under the leadership of Rustam Akramov in the FIFA ranking system started in 1992. The country has managed to break into the top 100 in 1993 (99th), 2017 (96th) and 2018 (96th).
