OBC students union urges government to conduct caste census, send 1 lakh postcards to PM Modi

The All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) has sent letters to 542 Lok Sabha and 237 Rajya Sabha members asking them to raise the demand to conduct the Caste Census 2021 in Parliament and now aim to send 1 lakh postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. AIOBCSA believes that there is a need for reliable data to uplift the social, educational and economic status of the people belonging to OBC category. ( caste census)

‘#ConductCasteCensus’ campaign launched in universities

In an official statement, the student body said that social, educational and economic data of different castes is important for evidence-based public policies. Reservation beyond the limit of 50 per cent. States like Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh are providing less than 15 percent reservation to OBCs. Expressing the need for contemporary and reliable data for taking decisions related to reservation and other social welfare policies on various castes, the student body will soon launch a ‘#ConductCasteCensus’ campaign in universities. Under the campaign, the study body aims to send 1 lakh postcards and 10 lakh tweets to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Requesting the central government to conduct caste census (caste census)

Several state legislatures including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana have passed resolutions and urged the central government to conduct caste census.
