IPL 2023: Lucknow overshadowed Mumbai in the playoff race, defeated by 5 runs in an interesting match

In an interesting match of IPL 2023, Lucknow Supergiants defeated Mumbai Indians by 5 runs. To strengthen themselves in the playoff race, it was very important for both the teams to win today’s match but Lucknow Supergiants won. Chasing a target of 178 runs, Mumbai Indians got off to a great start and Rohit Sharma and Ishaan Kishan shared a 90-run partnership but after the dismissal of both of them, the Mumbai team completely faltered. Ishaan Kishan played a blistering inning of 59 runs. After first dismissing Rohit Sharma and then Ishaan Kishan, Ravi Bishnoi brought Lucknow Supergiants back in this match. Today, Suryakumar Yadav could not do anything special from Mumbai side. Ravi Bishnoi and Yash Thakur took 2-2 wickets from Lucknow while Mohsin Khan got one wicket. With this win, Lucknow now has 15 points, while Mumbai has slipped to number four with 14 points. To reach the playoffs, both the teams may need to win their next matches.

 

Earlier, on the basis of Marcus Stoinis’ career-best 89 not out, Lucknow Super Giants recovered from a poor start to score 177 for three on a difficult pitch in the IPL on Tuesday. Stoinis hit eight sixes in his 47-ball innings and shared an 82-run partnership with stand-in captain Krunal Pandya (49 retired hurt). Earlier, Lucknow lost three wickets for 35 runs in the seventh over. Lucknow took a controversial decision to drop Kyle Myers, their highest run-scorer this season, which also proved to be wrong. Deepak Hooda, who came in his place, was the victim of Jason Behrendorff after scoring five runs. Jason also sent Prerak Mankad to the pavilion on the next ball. Lucknow’s condition worsened with the dismissal of Quinton Dickock in the seventh over. He scored 16 runs in 15 balls. He caught Ishaan Kishan behind the wicket on Piyush Chawla’s googly. Since then Stoinis and Krunal took the lead. Krunal retired in the 16th over due to discomfort. After this, Stoinis hit spinners Hrithik Shokin and Chawla for sixes in consecutive overs. It was difficult to play strokes on this pitch but Stoinis used his power to the fullest. Chris Jordan scored 24 runs in the 18th over which included two sixes and three fours. He ended the innings by hitting Akash Madhwal for a six. Mumbai bowlers gave away 54 runs in the last three overs.
