Out of the five states where assembly elections are due in the next two months, four have BJP chief ministers and only one state is Punjab., Where is the chief minister of Congress. Six months before the elections, the Congress has made a Dalit Chief Minister in Punjab. Charanjit Singh Channi is the first Dalit Chief Minister in the history of Punjab. 28 He is the only Dalit Chief Minister in the states. But the Congress party is not contesting the elections by claiming him as the chief ministerial candidate. The Congress has not even once said that Channi will be the chief minister if it wins the election. This is because all the big leaders of the state Congress want to become the chief minister themselves and they are opposing Channi’s name.
State President Navjot Singh Sidhu is the biggest obstacle in the way of Channi’s claim for the post of Chief Minister. They do not want the party to contest the elections by making Channi the face of the Chief Minister. Don’t know by what technique they have forced the Congress high command in such a way that what they are saying is being done. Congress’ election campaign committee chief Sunil Jakhar is also opposed to contesting elections in Channi’s name and state Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also does not want elections to be contested in Channi’s name.
Of these, Sidhu and Randhawa are Jat Sikhs., While Sunil Jakhar is a Jat. their total votes 20 The percentage is close and even out of that the Congress gets very less votes. Traditionally this vote goes with the Akali Dal and has been going with the AAP since the last few elections. Now Captain Amarinder Singh is also a contender for the same vote. Yet the Congress high command was under pressure from the leaders representing this minority vote. 33 % is ignoring Channi who can mobilize Dalit votes.
