Another special Formula 1 weekend approaching

The Formula 1 circus settles in Italy this week. After an unprecedented weekend in a Zandvoort fort renamed Orange, which was special for almost everyone involved, another special weekend awaits in Monza. For the second time this season, the drivers are waiting for a sprint race.

Earlier this year, the baptism of fire took place at Silverstone. With qualifying shifted to Friday and a sprint race on Saturday, the premier class was introduced to a new concept.

Max Verstappen coped best with the changes. After finishing second in qualifying, he won the sprint race on Saturday, also taking three bonus points.

Other pattern

After a day, Verstappen began the Grand Prix from post, yet sadly for the Dutchman, his race was over rapidly. Currently on the initial lap, he wound up in the divider, after a tap from Lewis Hamilton. His opponent from Mercedes was punished with a five-second time punishment, yet the Briton in any case figured out how to dominate the race.

Verstappen indicated in England that a sprint race follows a different pattern. “Because we start with less fuel, you can push straight away. However, that is again hard for the tires, but fortunately, that is the same for everyone,” he stated at the time after his victory in the sprint race.

For Verstappen’s partner Sergio Pérez, the British small-scale GP finished in tears. The Mexican turned early and eventually didn’t complete the race. “I expect a superior end of the week this time,” said the Mexican Red Bull driver, thinking back on the run race at Silverstone.

In any case, the teams will be better prepared on the high-speed track in Monza, where the drivers can press the accelerator pedal for almost the entire lap.

“This will be our second sprint race, which makes the weekend extra interesting,” said Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff. “We have learned from last time and are looking forward to putting the knowledge gained into practice.”
