IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans will clash with Sunrisers to secure a place in the playoffs

Ahmedabad. The usually consistent Gujarat Titans team will try to forget the failure of the previous match and secure their place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs with a solid performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad here on Monday. One more win will be enough for defending champions Gujarat Titans to make it to the playoffs, while Sunrisers have eight points from four wins in 11 matches and are almost out of contention for a place in the next round. Gujarat had lost to Mumbai Indians in the last match in which Rashid Khan performed well with both bat and ball but his other players could not walk.

Its bowlers had failed to contain Suryakumar Yadav while its leading batsmen were also unable to get going. With 16 points from 12 matches, Gujarat are still on top of the points table but they will have to rectify their mistakes in the next two matches to avoid an if and when situation. Captain Hardik Pandya also said after the team’s fourth defeat in 12 matches, “We could not perform well as a group. Our bowling was also not good. We either did not have a clear strategy or we could not execute it. The top-order batsmen could not run in batting and despite Rashid Khan’s stormy half-century innings, the team had to face defeat in this match.

This star spinner also did well in bowling. Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami also missed that match but will be back to work his magic with the new ball. Mohit Sharma was used in the middle overs in the earlier matches but was handed the new ball against Mumbai. However, this bet of Gujarat Titans did not work. Sunrisers, on the other hand, are stuck in a tough quagmire of Agar Magar and will have to win all their remaining three matches and pray for favorable results from other teams as well. The Sunrisers team has reached such a situation due to its own mistakes. At one point they were in a winning position against Lucknow Supergiants but their bowlers could not defend 80 runs in the last six overs.

For Lucknow, Nicholas Pooran played the game-changing innings. Sunrisers have suffered a big loss this season due to the failure of the top-order batsmen and the absence of key bowlers. Mayank Agarwal has been replaced in the top-order by Anmolpreet Singh but he too is yet to make an impact. The failure of Rahul Tripathi is also costing the team heavily. He has so far scored only 199 runs in 11 matches. Captain Aiden Markram has also not been able to lead from the front. He has scored 207 runs in 10 matches. The team has also not been able to properly utilize fast bowler Umran Malik, who played his last match on 29 April. Abdul Samad’s return to form though is a positive sign for the team.
