Indore Stadium pitch rating changed from ‘Poor’ to ‘Below Average’, Motera pitch ‘Average’

Dubai. The International Cricket Council (ICC) changed the pitch rating of the Holkar Stadium in Indore (the venue of the third Test match between India and Australia) from ‘poor’ to ‘below average’ following an appeal by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). . The ICC rated the Narendra Modi Stadium pitch (4th match) in Ahmedabad as ‘average’ as it was too slow for batting with both teams completing one innings each.

The match ended in a draw, with India winning the series 2–1. In Indore, Australia defeated India by nine wickets within three days to secure a place in the World Test Championship final. The ICC Appeals Panel reviewed match referee Chris Broad’s decision and found that there was not enough variable bounce to award it a ‘Poor’ rating. The pitch was initially given three demerit points, so now it will get just one demerit point.

“The footage from the Test match was reviewed by an ICC Appeals Panel consisting of Wasim Khan, ICC General Manager for Cricket, and Roger Harper, a member of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee,” according to an ICC statement on Monday. Both were of the opinion that the match referee followed the guidelines of the pitch assessment procedure but that there was not enough variable bounce to give it a ‘poor’ rating. ,

According to it, “The panel concluded that the pitch should be rated ‘below average’ which means the Holkar Stadium would get one ‘demerit’ point instead of three.” The Wankhede Stadium pitch and the YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, where the first two ODIs between India and Australia were played, were rated ‘Very Good’ by the ICC match referees.
