Tajinderpal Singh Toor creates meet record in National Throw Championship

Banihati. Former Asian Games champion Tejinderpal Singh Toor bettered his own meet record by a centimeter to win gold in the men’s shot put event at the second AFI National Throw Championship here on Wednesday. Toor’s attempt was to throw the shot put at 20m, he made four attempts better than 19.51m but could only manage a best effort of 19.95m. Toor, the 2018 Asian Games gold medallist, pipped Karanvir Singh, who won the silver medal, with a throw of 19.54m. Sahib Singh finished third with an effort of 18.77m.

In the men’s discus throw event, Haryana’s Manjeet defeated Praveen Kumar.Manjit of the Air Force won the first position by throwing the discus at 51.24m. Sena’s Praveen finished second with an effort of 50.88m. In the women’s shot put event, Uttarakhand’s Rekha Singh pushed veteran 2014 Asian Games bronze medalist Manju Bala to the second spot. Rekha won the gold medal with an effort of 54 metres.
