Learning death bowling skills from Bravo: Deshpande

Chennai Super Kings medium pacer Tushar Deshpande says bowling the death overs is not an easy task and he is still learning the skill. In the match against Lucknow Supergiants, the 27-year-old took two wickets but also conceded four wides and three no-balls, much to the displeasure of his skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Deshpande told reporters after Chennai’s victory, “Bowling in the death overs is not an easy task.” I am just learning it.

He said, “We have Dwayne Bravo as the bowling coach, who was the best bowler in the death overs. I am trying to learn from him. My role is similar to what Bravo played for Chennai over the years. I can’t replace him but I am learning to bowl slog overs from him. Deshpande said he is improving his game every day and growing as a bowler.

He said, “I believe whether I get a chance to play or not, it is not in my hands. But it is in my hands that I improve my game every day, so I am focusing on it. The thing is. No-balling is a crime in T20 cricket but if I kept thinking about it, I could have given 10 extra runs and the result could have gone in favor of the other team.

Meanwhile, Lucknow bowling coach Morne Morkel said that England fast bowler Mark Wood is still finding his feet in the sub-continent, especially in the IPL. Wood took five wickets against Delhi Capitals but could not walk on Monday. Morkel said, “Mark Wood is bowling at a speed of 150 km. He is bowling with an aggressive length. He is our strike bowler. It is important for me to tell him what we expect from him on the kind of pitch. This is only his third match in IPL. He is just finding his footing in the sub-continent, especially in the IPL where even a small mistake can land you in trouble.
