Rameez’s position as PCB chief under threat after two back-to-back defeats against England

Rameez Raja can be removed from the post of chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board after the defeat in two consecutive Test matches against England. Speculations are rife that a faction led by former board members has started a campaign to oust Rameez from the post of PCB chairman. This group has claimed that something is going on behind the scenes. The country’s Law Ministry has met the Prime Minister, the patron of the board, for changes in the PCB. A PCB source said, “Yes, something is going on. Rumors abound that Najam Sethi recently met the Prime Minister at a function in Lahore. In such a situation, Rameez can be removed from the post.

Rameez is the PCB chairman since September 2021 and was nominated by former Prime Minister Imran Khan. When Imran’s party won a majority of seats in the 2018 general elections, Najam Sethi resigned as PCB chairman. Under the constitution of the Board, the Prime Minister nominates candidates for the post of Chairman and one of them is selected by the ‘Board of Governors’. However, after Shahbaz Sharif became the prime minister, Rameez managed to retain his post.
