Real Madrid take lead over Chelsea as Vinicius and Benzema shine

Madrid. Karim Benzema scored again against Chelsea as Real Madrid edged closer to knocking the English club out of the Champions League for the second season in a row. Vinicius Júnior helped Real Madrid score both goals as his side took a 2-0 lead from the quarter-final first leg to take a strong step towards the semi-finals. Benzema scored the first goal in the 21st minute while Marco Asensio doubled the lead in the 74th minute.

It was Benzema’s sixth goal in five games against Chelsea. Chelsea were reduced to 10 men for the last half hour due to Ben Chilwell’s red card. It was Chelsea’s second straight defeat since Frank Lampard took over as interim manager. The second leg of the quarter-finals will be played at Stanford Bridge next week.
