Restrictions on rally, road shows and street meetings

New Delhi. With the announcement of assembly elections in five states, the Election Commission has announced several restrictions. The commission has imposed restrictions due to the rapidly increasing third wave of corona virus. This time the election of five states including Uttar Pradesh will be held without big election rally, road show and street meeting. Parties have been allowed to hold virtual rallies. However, after January 15, the commission will review this decision once.

Announcing the election dates, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that security is of paramount importance during elections. He said- Vaccination campaign is being intensified. All election workers are required to have both doses of the corona vaccine. At the same time, he said that all the election workers will be given precaution dose like frontline workers. He said that the election campaign will be done only through virtual rally and only five people will be able to go for door-to-door campaigning.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that before every rally, an affidavit will be taken from the candidate. There will be no rally, roadshow and padyatra till the first week i.e. 15 January. Street meetings, bike rallies will also be banned. After January 15, the situation in Corona will be reviewed and then a decision will be taken on rallies and public meetings. Even if rallies are allowed, the Kovid protocol will be strictly followed.

On behalf of the commission, it was said that the candidates cannot take a procession for nomination, nor will they be able to take out a victory procession after victory. Online enrollment facility has also been given to the candidates through Suvidha App. The commission said that action will be taken against those who violate the Kovid rules under sections of the Epidemic Act, National Disaster Management Act and IPC. Along with this, the commission also informed that senior citizens above 80 years of age, differently-abled and people affected by corona virus will get the facility to vote from home. For this the team of Election Commission will go to his house and will come after giving ballot.
